Tyler's first pinewood derby
Last night Tyler's cub scout pack held a pinewood Derby. Here's Tyler's car.
Tyler picked out the design for the car. I cut it out then Tyler sanded it and painted it. When Jonathan went to stick the wheels on, the front part of the car where the axles go broke off. We only had an hour before the weigh in so we tried to super glue the wood back together. Instead what we ended up doing is getting super glue in the wheels so they wouldn't turn at all. 5:30 at night the scout office is closed so we can't go there for more parts, however Roberts does carry lots of pinewood derby parts. I made a quick trip there and picked up the new wheels and axle. This is why the front and rear tires do not match. Using a drill we finally got the wheels on and added the weights and headed off to the derby. Here's all the entries. Some legal entries, some not. We were pretty lax on the rules. Tyler's was legal.
Here's Tyler watching the races.
Tyler's car did fairly well. There were 22 entries and Tyler ended up in 7th place. That doesn't award him a trophy, but he did get a pedestal for his car and a car shaped zinger.
Such a fun night. I'm ready to do it again.
