As soon as the sun set on the last day of school, the neighbors built a bon fire in the middle of the cul de sac and let the kids burn any remnants from school they didn't want any more. My kids went out there, but wouldn't burn anything. They wanted to keep every scrap of paper they ever wrote or colored on during the school year. I'm sure this is good, it shows they enjoyed school and are proud of their work. But I'm guessing this will change over time and they will be burning a lot more stuff.
The first thing to do after school gets out, is take those report cards to Krispy Kreme. For every grade equivalent to an A (in this case every E) they will give you a free donut. Mmmm. Of course watching the donuts fry up and get bathed in glaze is fun to do too.Spanish Fork canyon has windmills visible from miles away. They are impressive in size, and they make a buzzing sound as they spin. We used this as an opportunity to pass off a scout requirement and talk about alternate forms of power.
